The Day I Got Peanut

As a person who has lived with anxiety and depression for most of her life, I know all too well about feeling lonely within my own thoughts. The unfortunate feeling like my thoughts and feelings don't matter, yet as a Virgo, the feeling of being needed is what makes me the happiest. So what did I do to fuel that void, I got a dog. I needed something to take care of and I needed something to need me. It was the best decision I've ever made. That's when I got my heart stolen by a Jack Russell Terrier and Chihuahua mix named Peanut. He was so small, smaller that any iPhone I've ever seen. I remember when I first brought him, I refused to put him down, carried him around everywhere like he was a baby. He was my baby, he needed me and I needed him, I felt complete. I know it sounds weird, but I truly felt as if Peanut was just want I needed for me to get through my anxiety. He knew when I was upset and he would want to come and lay on my lap, he knew when I was crying and h...

Johnathan Martin: The Reason Why I want to do News

Before coming to college, I've always had the dream of telling the news. Even as a child, I would pretend to tell the news with my cousins and friends, and at first it was just for fun. However, once I got older, I realized, it was actually something I was extremely good at. So I did some digging while in my last years of high school and even couple of years after that, I started looking for people in the media who were   prominent in the news world. Everyone that I came across were white, now nothing is wrong with a white anchor for the news, but there wasn't enough Black representation for me. My sophomore year of college, my Communications professor wanted us to interview someone who is in the field that we were pursuing and that is when I found Jonathan Martin from Fox26 news. When I tell you I was so excited when he actually called me back for an interview! We must have stayed on the phone for hours just talking about the obstacles he endured as a Black, educated man in ...

Should the Schools even be Open?

SCHOOLS SHOULD HAVE NEVER SAID THAT IT WAS OKAY FOR THE STUDENTS TO RETURN TO CAMPUS. I don't understand why media isn't talking about this enough. There are cases of Covid on the rise, and it rose even higher once states decided that it was a smart idea to have in-person class. For what? My mother is school teacher and she has 2 classes of 15+ kids in one setting. Then the schools claim that they will enforce social distancing measures, how are you going to stop children from being around each other? The kids may have Covid, but because schools are so money hungry, the lives of the students and teachers don't matter to them as long as they make money. Schools are ran like any of the other businesses around the nation so our lives truly never really mattered as long as they make money off of our heads. We are in the middle of pandemic, people are dying at high rates, there are new cases every day, people are getting kicked out of their homes, and even worse, the "pres...

Post Covid Blues: How am I going to make money?

Being a Communications major, my main concern post Covid, is if any places are going to even need content writers or public relations specialist. I know maybe not in the actual buildings but will I even have the opportunity to work from home? Then I'm also a English minor, so I know schools are going to be in need of teachers, but that brings up the question whether not if I am going to teach virtually or in person. I may just go the education route, not because I am not afraid of the challenges that come with being a Communications major, but I'm going to need something quick. My mom is a English teacher and I can visibly see the stress she has to go through, but she is still oozing with passion and commitment of getting the kids to learn the best way she can. Since the pandemic, online learning has been the most hardest thing to conquer, I should know, all of my college classes are online. Do you guys have any suggestions about how I should go about with applying for jobs? S...

Google Docs: You Need This

We all like free right? What about a free web application that not only helps you type your papers, but is attached to the best search engine in the world: Google. I am pleased to introduce to you guys Google Docs, a web application where you can type essays, create presentations   and share it with your friends or professional adversaries all for FREE. As a college student, money is already hard to come by. Between buying textbooks and having to pay for homework (which I personally feel like is unnecessary), once I found out that this is one less thing I have to pay for, happy couldn't even begin to describe how I felt. One of my favorite things about this application, besides the not having to pay, is that it automatically saves in the application so if yo have to leave the site, you can always come back. Another one of my favorites is that once you open the new document, it looks just like any other word application. Equipped with how you wan to save the document, font...
