Johnathan Martin: The Reason Why I want to do News
Before coming to college, I've always had the dream of telling the news. Even as a child, I would pretend to tell the news with my cousins and friends, and at first it was just for fun. However, once I got older, I realized, it was actually something I was extremely good at. So I did some digging while in my last years of high school and even couple of years after that, I started looking for people in the media who were prominent in the news world. Everyone that I came across were white, now nothing is wrong with a white anchor for the news, but there wasn't enough Black representation for me. My sophomore year of college, my Communications professor wanted us to interview someone who is in the field that we were pursuing and that is when I found Jonathan Martin from Fox26 news. When I tell you I was so excited when he actually called me back for an interview! We must have stayed on the phone for hours just talking about the obstacles he endured as a Black, educated man in news media. One thing I remember him telling me is, "Never give up on your dreams, of course there are going to be people who don't believe you can do, and that's when you do it, but not for them, but for you."
